Dirty Mind is the sound of Princes musical vision being fully realized. After toiling away in the studio for three years attempting to concoct the perfect genre-defying mix of rock, synth pop, funk and new wave, his third album for Warner Bros. Records finally unleashed the pent-up energy that had been simmering at Princes live shows. The recordings heard on Dirty Mind were originally intended to be demos, but Prince found the material to be so powerfully honest and of-the-moment that he wanted it released urgently. After a brief back and forth with Warner Bros. the label was concerned that the sexually explicit and controversial lyrics on songs like Head and Sister would make radio airplay impossible Prince prevailed, and Dirty Mind was released on October 8, 1980.

I REMEMBER THIS ALBUM SOO MUCH. ONE OF THE BOTS AT SCHOOL GAVE ME HIS POSTER FROM HIS LB. I HAD TWO IN MY ROOM. MOM NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT EITHER. HELL, I HAD THE LARGEST WALL DEDICATED TO ALL MY MAGAZINE PHOTOS FOR PRINCE, VANITY 6, THE TIME...MOSTLY THIS MAN RIGHT HERE! I WOULD LISTEN TO SIDE 1 ALL NIGHT ON MY JUKEBOX STYLED STEREO. IT HAD THE TURNTABLE, 8-TRACK, AM/FM RADIO, SPEAKER BUILT IN UNDERNEITH AND 3 DISCO BALLS AND LIGHTS ON TOP. MY ELDEST SISTER GAVE IT TO ME FOR KEEPING MY NEPHEW ALL SUMMER...PLUS CASH!!! SHIRLY SPOILED ME GREATLY! MY HEART STILL ACHES LOSING PRINCE. THERE WAS NOT A TRACK ON THIS ALBUM THAT I DID NOT LOVE!

I have the first pressing of this stored away but purchased this due to the quality of the vinyl. I would I've if they actually did a super deluxe of all of his early releases with vault tracks but I'll still take the original. This was him really starting to come into his own in my opinion.
