I have the first pressing of this stored away but purchased this due to the quality of the vinyl. I would I’ve if they actually did a super deluxe of all of his early releases with vault tracks but I’ll still take the original. This was him really starting to come into his own in my opinion.

The album that defined my senior year in high school, The soundtrack to my adolescent break through. I owned the cassette and wore it out twice...I recall Dirty Mind being played on ESPN as background music. Yeah it happened. I remember when a local radio DJ fell asleep and Head was coming over the airwaves, we had rotary phones but folks were calling each other like WOW did you hear Head on the radio! The growth and change of direction was awesome with this album. The concerts was incredible! too! The stanky base lines, the organ riffs, the guitars sounding like a futuristic Rock. Dude put together an amalgamation of genres that left scathing their heads and the suits wondered what is this? It's some of the best creative music ever that's what it is. This was the point when true Prince folk knew this dude ain't ordinary and he's here to stay.

Beauty Album!!! Great hits, but the whole album reaonates of the artist in a unique time in his career. Sensual, rythmic, poppy, well.... PRINCE!

Hands down my favorite album from his early work! It's got a great build to it and once it starts it don't let go. I love that When You Were Mine is just a fun and innocent funk/pop heartbreak jam and by the time you get to Sister, it seems Prince has forgot all about that other chick and he's totally cool with it. I feel that as the album progresses it doubles up in confidence and what started out a little coy and cautious sounding is fully fleshed out and sounding brash and cocky and hedonistic. It's punk rock in funks clothing!
