Emancipation was as expansive an album as anything Prince had ever released. A triple album constituting exactly three hours of music, Emancipation found Prince celebrating the release of music solely on his terms. "This is my most important record," he proclaimed upon its release. "I'm free, and my music is free."
Much like Paisley Park, the recording complex in which Prince created Emancipation, the album represents the incredible variety of his influences and moods. Romance and family are key themes ("Somebody's Somebody," "The Holy River," "The Love We Make"), reflecting his recent marriage to dancer and muse Mayte Garcia that year. Elsewhere, Prince reflects on technology ("My Computer") and sex ("In This Bed Eye Scream"), and offers new, upbeat grooves ("Face Down," "Jam Of The Year") as well as four unique covers (Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," the Philly soul classics "Betcha By Golly Wow" and "La, La, La Means I Love U," and Joan Osborne's then-recent rock hit "One Of Us").
First time on vinyl! 6 purples LPs in slipcase. Each LP will have printed jackets and printed interior sleeves.

PrestonApril 19, 2023Beautiful set. The sleeves could have been better quality but with the weight of the LPs, a bit of wear is understandable. I’ll definitely put the vinyl in plastic sleeves to try to preserve the stock ones. An abundance of great music.

Cameron BowmanDecember 28, 2021I am giving 4 stars rather than five not due to the music but due to the fact that my copy arrived with some slight condition issues. i was surprised as I had purchased the Welcome 2 America box set and thought it was fantastic. This one has some issues with the sleeves bursting and the 6 LPs jackets having some condition issue. Sounds nitpicky but at this price point it really needs to be perfect.

When Prince came in concert here after releasing this album, the concert had sold out in 12 minutes and I was unable to get tickets. After listening to all 6 albums, you could feel the Love that was put into the music it seems to be during his happiest time in his life!! I can sit all day and listen

Gryphon MacThoyMarch 4, 2020This is probably my favorite Prince album of all time. Great dance tunes. Some of the loveliest poetry he ever wrote. Beautifully produced in the original CD package and optional large format book. This LP release is likewise, beautifully produced. From the purple vinyl to the ridiculously over the top packaging which includes an individual regular album cover and slipcase for each record, the whole thing is just beautiful. My intention is to frame the entire set in reversible frames so that I can enjoy all the art just by turning each frame around on the wall from time to time. Thank you for brining this album to life again by giving it such a special large format presentation. Good work, people!

Eric NosenzoSeptember 25, 2019Prince's Emancipation is easily one of his most underrated albums that's worth every penny for this gorgeous vinyl set! This album is musically complex, lyrically brilliant, and spans practically every genre of music over the course of the 3 hour length. Some of Prince's most unique, catchy, and heartfelt songs can be found throughout the album. This has been one of my favorite Prince albums since its original release back in 1996, and now I'm able to appreciate it on vinyl! Do yourself a favor and buy this album!

Marilynn C McNairSeptember 23, 2019stellar! masterpiece! putting the wonderful 'emancipation' on vinyl was more than a notion! the sound is gorgeous and clear telling the story of prince the 'partyman' falling in love and becoming a husband and father and then on to his concerns about how technology is changing our world. it's so complete. prince's renditions of old school classics as well as two great songs by two prominent female artists just make it all the more a masterwork. the artwork and the layout of the box set is beautiful to see. prince was so clever in his commentary, always.
