“I didn’t want to do a double album, but I just kept writing... I always compare songwriting to a girl walking in the door. You don’t know what she’s going to look like, but all of a sudden she’s there.” Prince, November 1982
The Super Deluxe Edition brings fans all the audio material that Prince officially released in and around 1982, as well as 23 previously unissued studio tracks recorded between November 1981 and January 1983, and a complete live audio performance of the 1999 tour recorded at the late show (the second of two that day) in Detroit, MI on November 30, 1982.
In addition, both CD and vinyl sets also boast a brand-new DVD containing another complete, previously unreleased concert from the 1999 tour, recorded in multi-cam live at the Houston Summit on December 29, 1982.
The Super Deluxe Edition set also features Prince’s previously unseen handwritten lyrics for several songs from the era, including the hit “Little Red Corvette,” plus images of the analog tape reels from the vault and rare photography from Prince’s early ‘80s photographer, Allen Beaulieu. The Super Deluxe Edition is completed with brand-new liner notes by longtime Rolling Stone critic David Fricke, revered Guns N’ Roses bassist and author Duff McKagan, Minneapolis historian and radio host Andrea Swensson, and Prince scholar Duane Tudahl.
Fricke notes, “A landmark collection of vision, craft, and urgency – an unprecedented immersion in the frenetic momentum and private working world of Prince in 1981 and 1982, en route to the profound breakthrough of his fifth studio album, 1999."

CD's 3 & 4, 24 tracks from the vault made the whole package worth it. LOVED Bold Generation! 7 in. edits totally unnecessary, Promo mixes and 'B' sides generally disappointing, but some of the 12in remixes of "Little Red Corvette" are nice to have on CD instead of vinyl. Video versions not significantly different from other versions. Again, unnecessary. Packaging was very nice, and arrived in perfect condition.

I pre-ordered this and got it shortly after the official release. It has taken me some time to work my way through the copious gems. To whomever is deciding the tracks to release... I LOVE YOU. I could go on for days about many of the tracks presented here, but I will laud all of my praise for them through my praise of one track in particular; ‘Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)’ To hear the base and piano-driven version sent chills through me. It has truly become my number one track and reminds me each time of the genius lost with Prince’s passing... As someone else stated, please continue with releases like this, especially of the live performances! I had the opportunity to see him 6x with each time being more magical than the last... I regret I was unable to see him more. Please begin to release concerts from the 90’s... YouTube doesn’t exactly do them justice ;-) And I can’t wait for the super deluxe SOTT coming in September!!!

I am so happy and pleased with my recent purchase of the 1999 Super Deluxe and the One Night Only Deluxe Edition as well. I've been a huge Prince fan since his debut album and I am delighted to have in my music library these two additions. I believe that these two releases are a must have for any Prince fan and I highly recommend them.

Wonderful set. A+ to the team who remastered 1999. The live Detroit recording is OK. I have to remember it's the early 80s and the recording was probably an after thought. It's better cranked up in your car than on med-low volume in the house. LOVE the Vault CDs. Favorite song=Purple Music. Thank you for releasing this.

Magnifique !

Anything Prince is a MUST have for me and This collection did not fall short! I Love the earlier years of Prince because it takes me back to when I first fell in Love with him. I would rush home from school and listen to the 1999 album with my head phones on and play it over and over again!!! I loved A-U-T-O-matic and Lady Cab Driver. Thank you for this, the vault releases - I cant wait for more...I will forever keep his legacy alive and support the estate!!! Prince Fan since 1978!!!!

I had to wait for this. Backordered at Christmas, it showed up a week ago. : ) 1999 is my favorite release, and this deluxe set is worth every penny. It takes me right back to when it first came out. The notes in the booklet are great, giving additional backstory to the creation of 1999. Seeing all the handwritten lyrics (with "you" spelled out in some places rather than "u") is a delight. The original album is remaster, plus there are all of the singles and B-sides (probably the weakest disc of the set, but still valuable for collectors). The TWO vault discs are fabulous. It would have been a very different album if he had included any of these - I think he made the right choices (though, I might have swapped out "Free" for something else, myself... ahem). Finally, two live discs - on audio and one DVD. It's fun seeing Prince so young and still working things out -he hadn't completely mastered stage moves, but was getting there. Probably the only thing missing (or maybe I just haven't found it yet) is a reprint of a 1999 ticket stub. Looking forward to a similar Parade someday. Thanks Estate, you seem to be doing a good job.
